First you should take a basic sewing class. Then think about what you want to sew. For example you want to make a shirt. You should then decide, what style? What color? What type of fabric? Cotton? Flannel? Chiffon? After you know what style, go to a craft store and buy a pattern. Find someone who has two things: experience and a sewing machine. Don't buy your own until you are sure this is something you want to pursue. Good luck!

I suggest to first get some fabric, a sewing machine, and maybe a book about making clothes or sewing from a public library.

Hi,
making you own clothes is hard!! but you can do it!!
go to the store, arts &crafts section and find some patterns that you like.pick out some material that isn't too "slippery" it's hard to sew. get plenty, the pattern should list how much you will need.
and, start telling people that you want a sewing machine!!!
that's how I got my last 2!!!My mother in law gave me one (and a co worker gave me one also, try not to DROP it! they don't work so well after that!!!) I make all kinds of things!!
have fun!!

If you take a sewing class, you'll have a better idea of what you are going to need. (And you might get hooked up with a good used sewing machine!)
If your school doesn't offer sewing, try the local community college. (Yes, you'll need a note from your mom)
Good luck!

Check out a good sewing book- I like http://www.amazon.ca/exec/obidos/ASIN/073942100X
Simplicity's Simply the Best.
A good, basic sewing machine, a simple pattern with not to many pieces, avoid zippers at first, use an easy-to-handle cotton (save the satins for later). It is fun!
