A minimum wage should be established, if they deem it necessary, by each state, not by the federal government. Most states already have a minimum wage that is well above the federal government required minimum and well below a livable income.
A sustainable minimum wage in California, New York or Hawaii would be pretty comfortable in other areas of the country.
The type of work performed should reflect the salary earned.

Yes. Minimum wage should equal the cost of living. That way everyone could afford to live in the state that they are in. That would be great, but doesn't always happen.

But who sets the "value" of the work? Where did we get this arbitrary number? I think that once upon a time it did correspond, but now there is a large unatural gap, where there are people who work their butts off and are barely one step above homelessness. It should be equal because if you live below the cost of living what is that really saying? That you don't have enough money to live where you are living. So what do you do then? Cease to exist? Families, single people, humans, have the right to live comfortably. We're not talking rich here, just maybe not a mouse infested rat-hole, with only Kraft Dinner and hamburger for the week. Think about it, the cost of living is 10$/hr. Is that unreasonable?

I agree that it the wage should reflect the value of the work done. I also strongly believe in trusting the market. If the pay for a job is priced lower than people are willing to work for - the position will remain unfilled and the company will suffer. If someone is willing to work for less than the cost of living - I'm ok with letting them. They could always hold out for something better.

Define cost of living? and what area are you speaking off? Some areas "cost of living" is much higher than others, should the minimum wage be different for those area's or should it be across the board?

I feel that min. wage should rise up to the cost of living so that those earning min. wage can at least live an comfortable life.
