You reap what you "sow" (as in planted, not sewed cloth together).
Bad things happen to good people in order to make good things happen to them. Its all about karma and how you handle bad situations. If you pass the "test" then the good stuff comes.

Bad things come to bad people as well but as we consider ourselves good so we only notice when it comes to us. Have we ever noticed what problems bad people are facing. We are generally carried away by their luxurious lives. But dont we notice that many rich people cannot eat many tasty foods despite lot of money because their doctor would not allow them. Have we ever inquired what sort of relation a man is having with his wife. Does his kids respect him etc. Bad man lives a miserable life but he appears to the public otherwise. Similarly when bad things come to good people its test of their goodness. They would be rewarded for that.

It is the balance of the universe. all good people dont start out that way, we must learn from our mistakes, which usually means that we did something bad to someone, and now its our turn. Jesus says, do unto others, as youd have done to you. but we all must pay for our misdeed, eventually.
