I'm somewhere in between. I'm a economic conservative (so, not welfare-loving), but social Liberal (so, I guess I fall into your category of 'degenerate' as I support, for instance, the acknowledgment that some people just are gay, and deserve the same rights and privileges as those of us who are not gay).
But- In my discussions with people far to my left, I haven't met any that think America sucks. They just think the direction that our current administration is taking America sucks, and want to change it for what they think is better. What's more American than that?
Following your leaders blindly, and supporting them in whatever they do- that's not a value that the country I live in was founded upon.

Apparently its conservatives who think America sucks. I'm pretty sure the 9/11 hijackers were as conservative as it gets.
