i assume that that the workbook is in some way locked or protected or the like but have been unable to find the key to unlocking this aspect of it. All I want to do is get it to accept a new (added) blank spreadsheet, something which is easy to do in any workbook. There are only 30 or so sheets in the workbook now.

Try saving it as a new spreadsheet.

If youre trying to input a sheet form another workbook into that one, try dragging and dropping from the tabs at the bottom. If you just need a new sheet, try right clickin gon the tab, and hitting new, or duplicate.

Right click on the sheet tabs at the bottom, you should be able to insert from there.

go to insert new page then go back to your old page and hit the gray square in the left corner. this will make it become highlighted. then go to your new page and click that same square and it too will be highlighted and then right click on the highlighted part and go down to paste. paste it in and then take it off of being highlighted and then erase what you do not need and BAM your done.... Do not forget to save it.
