Fasting triggers a cascade of alternative metabolic events that start to break down your proteins (from your own body cells) to generate the cabohydrates your body needs to get energy. This is called gluconeogenesis. Then your body dips into the fat reserves and statr to break down fats for energy, too. but not in the really great oxidative way it would if you were eating normally and getting good exercise.

Fasting picks out the toughest, most expensive and least efficient ways for your body to run itself and puts those processes into overdrive. The result is you get buildups of metabolic byproducts like ketones, lactic acid and so forth. You feel fatigued, you lose lean mass, and thanks to the ketones, you start to smell bad (especially your breath).

So yeah, fasting is BAD for you.
