The censorship organisation are pathetic in censor Tom and Jerry cartoons that contain smoking.
Kids are more likely to smoke if people are smoking around them, not because of some old cartoon. Kids probably don't even watch them anymore anyways.

As for Brits being stupid - you get stupid people in all races. America has stupid idiot for a president. Britain was doing something right because it had the largest empire the world has ever seen.

The Brits? Boys and girls, the man behind this crap is none other than Ted Turner, the guy who owns Cartoon Network, Boomerang, and just about everything else. It's gonna be world-wide, not just in the British Isles. Remember that this is the guy who spent millions of dollars destroying old black and white movies by "colorizing" them. He also had a hand in removing most of the violence in the Looney Tunes cartoons way back when. What do I think of it? Political correctness gone berserk! It makes me wanna go out and club a baby seal or four or five. But... that would be wrong, wouldn't it?

If true then this censoring is daft.

But .... and a big but .. what a sweeping statement from someone who forgot the word "in" as without it your statement does not make much sense. I didn't realise Tom and Jerry cartoons could be smoked, so obviously I have missed out on life.

Start reading and spelling out your sources correctly before condemning. I could add that at least we didn't vote for "Dubya", but I wouldn't do a thing like that.

Ciao.

Your question is a bit of a sweeping generalisation against the brits. The report came from a tiny minority of stupid folk who are running out of things to do with their time and trying to justify their jobs. As a Scot I think the ban is ridicuous so try and be less bias, please! I don't know anyone that smokes because they saw a cartoon cat puff a cigar occassionally, but I do know that the News very often carries stories of murders and assaults, joy riding/racing,etc., fuelled by the latest action packed-adrenaline rush computer games that young kids have very easy access to. That is more worrying! Or even that horrendously violent programme, Jackass. How many accidents/deaths have happened with kids imitating the insane actions of real people in that? Banning the likes of that would be more sense!

well the government are really anti smoking now and you have to remember that Tom & Jerry was made in the 50's when smoking was acceptable and had no known affect on your health, they even said it was good for you. The reason why it was taken out is because if smoking is associated with fun (i.e watching a cartoon) then smoking becomes tied in with familiar, happy feeling from your chilhood thus making you subconciously want to smoke. Its the same reason McDonalds have playgrounds and give out toys, crafty subliminal advertising form those dirty bastards in the tobacco industry and if you think watching it in a cartoon is harmless, think again.

PS don't call us stupid, we had Newton and we invented the computer

Utterly ridiculous. I really hate smoking, but as a kid loved those sweetie cigarettes you used to be able to get. I liked them even more when it was cold outside and your breathe showed as it looked like real smoke!
If people copied cartoons we'd all be hitting each other with Anvils and making bombs out of cannonballs with fuses. It's just politcal correctness gone mad and every country (not just here in the UK) seems to be getting infected with that. Baa Baa Rainbow sheep anyone?

Who thinks the Americans are stupid for having all their news reporting censored so that they have no idea of the aggressive, dictatorial foreign policy their nation operates?

Who thinks that that particular American is stupid for not realising it was an American owned network doing the censoring?

HEY!!!!!!!! I'm British (and proud of it.....sort of) and I don't agree with the censoring thing.
I can see why they did that though, They thought it would encourage kids to smoke or that mad parents will send the tv company, very angry letters about it.

Maybe if you looked at the problem from another's point of view you may get to understand why they did what they did.
