I vaguely remember in 1964 the Mets and Cardinals met for the last series of the year. This, if you remember was the year when the Phillies were in first place by something like 6 games with 12 to go or something like that and collapsed, I'm pretty sure they failed to win another game. Anyway the Mets almost cost the Cardinals the pennant but the Cardinals pulled it out. I also remember Bob Gibson hit Tommie Agee in the head with a pitch in one of the first spring training games in 1968. Legend has it everyone yelled out "welcome to the National League Tommy"!

Cardinals is the best in the National League. Forget about the sweep against Boston. They got Pujols, 50+ home runs this season I bet. Duncan stepped up for injured Jim Edmonds. Gold Glove winner Scott Rolen. Cy Young award winner is going to get in his groove. They got south paw Mark Mulder, one of my favorite pitchers. When Eckstein come back the Cardinals are going to be a beast!! And the Mets won '86 World Series on Luck!!

For one, THE METS RULE

and the Cardinals certainly don't. So there. Read that. The Mets are the best NL team right now, and.....

Seriously though. there is no cardinals-mets rivalry or anything. Ther was Lou Brock that played for the St Louis Cardinals back in the 70's and he was a great base stealer. there was some connection with the Mets with him. Maybe he played with the Mets at one time. I forget.

The Cardinals and St. Louis have a winning tradition that goes back many years with players such as Rogers Hornsby, Stan Musial, Dizzy Dean etc. while the Mets are referred to as "Pond Scum"
