My laptop supports PC2-5300 RAM but it only came with PC2-4200 RAM. And also my laptop came with 100GB 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive and I know Hitachi and Seagate came out with 7200RPM SATA Hard Drives but maximum size is 100GB. So my question is should I get the faster RAM or the faster Hard Drive. My budget is to only get either or for the time being. I currently have 1GB of RAM. So if I do upgrade to the faster RAM, I will max out my laptop with the 2 Gigs. So any suggestions is greatly appreciated.

On the side note..............
I have the Intel Core Duo T2600 2.16GHz Processor on it. It's got an ATI X1600 video card. And if I am going to get more RAM, I will remove the old one and sell it probably on ebay. It's no use if I install faster RAM with the slower one, the faster one will downspeed itself to the slower speed.
Thank you all for all who have replied.

Well make sure you can use two different RAM speeds in your laptop. Otherwise add RAM. Fast Hard drive is nice only for booting up your notebook and when you are opening a file and the drive searches... MORE OFTEN than NOT the hard drive is not the major bottle neck for day to day chours on PCs, RAM would be the first culprit and then Processor (in that order).

Depends on what you are doing. Do you need fast IO from disk, like archiving pictures at a doctors office?
Faster RAM is my choice, most systems with faster RAM come wtih SATA drives anyway.

RAM for sure. It will speed up nearly every process on your computer. A faster Hard Drive will only help with accessing files and decrease the length of your boot up time.

RAM size determines the amount of data you can access and work on at a time. The HDD is likkened to dead weight. If you need "more live weght" go for a higher RAM. Cheers.

go with the faster RAM. all a hard drive is the storing of files, but mostly hard drives wil run at 5400, which is standard, in pulling up files. get more memory the computer in general will run quicker, but its your processor that determines speed.

I would suggest more RAM over the faster hard drive.

More RAM preferred, but you do need more space on your hard drive you must delete something or copy the information onto a disk for future use.
