In my opinion, most immigrants are from poorer countries or just countries that have higher work ethics. Therefore, they are willing to work for less pay, and in virtually all instances, they work harder than their American counterparts. Here's an example: Most ski resorts in Tahoe have college students from Latin America working there (it's their summer break). In the cafeterias, these workers are constantly clearing off tables of trays and garbage. Knowing that that is their job, they do it with a smile. I feel I'm almost offending them when I tell them not to worry about me b/c I'll bus my own table. Now imagine that worker was an American; offensive would be the people who don't bus their own tables! I'm not saying that Americans are lazy, because there are very hard working Americans. But in terms of percentage, I think America has a higher percentage of lazy people.

I was born in America so I am American, not a race or color. In America the native language became English some 500yrs ago.

Sorry for the Native Americans who actually had the first languages in America.

I feel that this is a large root to anti-immigrant. Chinese came to America for the gold rush but no one rushed to change the living conditions, paper work, or communications for them. Africans were brought over for slavery and no one jumped in to learn their language so that they could fit it. Yet the Spanish speaking people come and all of a sudden if you are not bi-lingual then you will not qualify for many jobs. American children are being forced to take Spanish as a second language due to the job market, communications, and media. The average American English speaking child will not benefit from a second language in German, French, Italian or any other but Spanish. Why?

We are in America! Speak English! I can speak German, French, and Spanish with English as my primary language. I take pride in teaching my children about the multicultural of America. There are more than just English or Spanish in the Great USA.

I'm not "anit-immigrant" but it bothers me that it is easier for some people to immigrate than others. That doesn't seem right to me except in the cases of people who are running for their lives and need a place of refuge.

It also bothers me that we don't expect all immigrants to learn to speak and read the English language. You should have to know English in order to take your driver's test or become a citizen, or to vote--it's our official language. We shouldn't print up our voting materials and driver's tests in other languages.

It's okay with me if immigrants want to run businesses where they speak no English--I can always go somewhere else, but I don't think they should get special financial help to start those businesses because they came from somewhere else.

I think it is all of these "special accommodations" that people resent and transfer over as resentment toward the immigrants themselves.

Have you ever listened to or read the news? Your answer is there. There are so many bad things happening in America, that immigrants, mainly those of foreign races (by foreign I mean not white skinned or christians) are feared, because they pose too much of a threat.

Oh and for the person who said that the only people who's families weren't immigrants were african american and native americans. Hello! african americans are people from africa, so clearly they are immigrants too.

Most people are anti-illegal immigrants. Not just "anti-immigrant."

The first is reasonable and rational because of no W-2s, free education despite no W-2s--hence no taxes, stolen SS numbers at times, etc. There are various factors, including the fact that illegal immigrants make it more difficult for legal immigrants because countries feel the need to tighten their immigration policies.

Regarding the latter, it is mere hypocrisy.

I have no idea. When it comes to america everyone's family started off as immigrants except african americans and native americans. Even my family came here from cuba. So I dont know why america is so anti-immigrant.

Some people are just racist. But some people simply don't immigrants because they don't want "others". I once had a friend who was very anti-immigrant and he compared it to a stranger entering your home and begin to live there.

It's ironic since almost all American's ancestors immigrated here.Immigration has never hurt America and it won't hurt it now.
