No, it is not. It is just that most men feel that it is a man's place to know about mechanical things and it is hard to find a man that will acknowledge that a woman can know as much as he.
I have the same problem with electronics. I am lucky that my husband encourages me to continue my education.
I say go to school for the thing you love to do and you will be a happier person for and about it.

My wife has rebuilt her 1969 VW bug. She once got into an argument with a guy at NAPA who was trying to sell her $8.00 Sparkplugs. She insisted she needed the $1.00 ones and the $8.00 were a waste of money. She eventually asked to talk to the manager, and told him that the sales person was treating her like a dumb blonde who didn't know anything about cars, when it was very obvious that she was a dumb blonde who knew a lot about cars. This made everyone laugh and now she gets a discount whenever she goes there.
Now she always makes sure she has exactly what she needs written down with serial and/or stock number and the price she found online before she goes anywhere else.

Not at all!!!. I work in an Auto repair shop along side all the techs. I have learned lots of good info. about cars. The techs are always happy when our woman customers understand their vehicles and know about them.

Of course not! Women can know just as much if not more about cars than men. Don't let anyone ever tell you that you should be embarrassed about it. Good for you, I say!

Not at all. Any man can appreiciate a woman that can change her own oil and not let the radiator run out of water and burn up her dam car. And I bet you can cook good ,too.
Thanks! You are a credit to your species!.

Quit bragging. Its not taboo. I'm a 20 year old female mechanic. Just do what you do. Don't expect respect for it.
