this is an odd question, it seems very apples or oranges to me, unless you stretch the perspective in order to find an answer to such a question. scientists who do work to support law enforcement are obviously applying their knowledge towards the resolution of conflict ultimately--which is also the purpose of law enforcement. scientists work to find cures for disease and protect the public health or create civilizational advantages via biology or technology, and the police provide a degree of public security and provide a deterrent for aberrent behavior. but i wouldnt say that either scientists or law enforcement is controlling society or fighting for any particular cause besides the public health and welfare (when in perfect practice).
