Yes, because it measures the amount of HCG (the hormone your body produces when your pregnant) in your body. When you're pregnant the amount of HCG will double every 2-3 days. I believe the most sensitive hpt can detect an HCG level as low as 50. Therefore, if you have a level of 25 one day, it will be too low to show up on an hpt, but by the next day when it doubles to 50, it will. The hpt's on the market now are pretty accurate. I've heard on them giving false negatives, but not false positives. If you tested positive, go to your OB. They may have you take a blood test which will tell exactly how much HCG is in your system. The hpt can only tell if HCG is present, not how much.
Maybe I misunderstood the question. I thought you meant if you took one yesterday that showed negative and took another today that showed positive. Then, my answer above would apply. However, if you are talking about the same hpt, then no, it's done testing within 10 min max and should be thrown out after that.

What do you mean by overnight? Did you test at night and not look at it until morning? If so, then all tests will show positive after 10 minutes. If you mean that you tested at night and it was negative and then tested the next morning and it was positive, then yes it is positive since your hormones will keep building up as the pregnancy progresses and the hormones are more concentrated in your urine in the morning. If you want to be absolutely sure, then see your dr and get a blood test.

After about 10-15 minutes, a line will show up no matter what. Don't ever read it after 5 minutes just to be safe.

do you mean if you had sex one day and took a test the next day and get an accurate result? if this is the case then in my experience i would say no, either you were already pregnant or you had a deffected test. but again this is only my opinion i am not an expert.
