I believe the answer is "AI" (articifial intelligence) - the character is frozen in time for thousands of years under water staring at the "blue fairy" who is suppose to turn him from a robot into a real boy.

I believe you're thinking of "A.I." 's scene toward the end of the film where the mecha -- a humanoid robot -- David is trapped against a statue of a blue fairy. Like Pinocchio, all David wants is to be a real boy, and he stays trapped in the vehicle against the Blue fairy until he runs down.

The movie was "AI" (Artificial Intelligence) and it was a futuristic helicopter that was frozen in the Atlantic Ocean until aliens discovered it hundreds of years later.
