Depends on the utility rates in your area. Around here our power is generated by dams rather than power plants, that keeps the cost of electric lower than most parts of the country. So electric is a better choice for water heaters, dryers, and stoves. That may be different where you are.

A higher-end electric range will perform just as good as gas. It's really more personal preference than anything else.

For cold winter areas, gas furnaces generally provide more consistent heat than electric.

It depends on a few factors... is gas available where your new home is located? Is it cost effective? What is yourpersonal preference? Are you comfortable using it?

Personally, I would never purchase a home that I could not have a gas stove or range to cook with. I like to cook and this would be a requirement for my home.

Also a gas fireplace is REALLY nice. (Especially if you're home alone and don't feel like hauling in wood, building a fire, yada, yada, yada...) Adjust the thermostat lever and you have fire. Turn it down, it goes off... It's just so convenient. Plus, where I am it is faster and less expensive to heat the house in the winter this way. Around $80.00 during the snowy months versus $150.00-200.00 for electric heat.

As far as water heaters, dryers, etc... I have heard good and bad about all of them and I don't know if I have a set opinion either way. I hear gas dryers dry clothes alot faster, but I don't know if that is true. It was a non-issue for me because I usually set the laundry as I leave in the morning and toss them in the dryer while I make dinner or something else when I get home. I don't need a load dried in minutes.

If you have gas elsewhere for your stove and fireplace, then you can have the dryer and the water heater locations plumbed for gas as well. Might be a matter of convenience and personal choice at that point. Ask the builder their opinion, check with the utility company about prices and rebates for new appliances and whether it makes a difference if they are gas or electric. (I got 200.00 in rebates back for my washer & dryer set because they are energy efficient models.) Consider how you live as far as laundry habits, cooking requirements and preferences, etc. Ask your mom, aunt, friends, co-workers their preferences... Then you can weigh your options and decide what you want. If you are building a new house, get exactly what you want right now so you don't have costly remodels or disappointements later.

Good luck!!!

I would say that it would depend on your personal preferences, and where the home is going to be located. If you are in an area where storms may take out the power; I would consider gas to be my first choice. You will be able to cook and boil water and perform other day by day household "duties" during power outages. Gas is a bit more dangerous around young children, especially concerning the stove, so that is a consideration. You may want to evaluate the cost differences as well, before you make a decision. Best of luck to you in your new home. Have a good day!

Depends on the price of gas and electricity and your preference on the appliances.

GAS!!!! Gas is cheaper, heats much faster (stove and water heater) You also can hook up a gas fireplace and a Bar b que.AND if you live in a hurricane prone area, you can STILL use your major appliances (except fridge) during a power outage! Electric stoves and dryers suck up electric!

i would say it depends on the area that you live. gas can sometimes be more dangerous with little ones running around. but if you're in an area where blackouts/power shortages are likely, go GAS! even when your electricity's off, you still have a way to cook, purify water, and clean for your family. plus gas leaks are more and more unlikely to occur. but if you go gas make sure to install a detector you can get at any hardware store.

Go with gas, it has so many advantages over electric. One is it's way cheaper to heat water with gas, and you can keep your house warm and you can eat if your electricity goes off.

I personally like the gas stove so i can control how big the fire is. I live in a place with electric now ((grew up with gas)) and i highly dislike it. I prefer gas myself, but its really up to your preferences.

If I was in your situation I would go with electrical, just cause I would feel a little more safe, cause gas isn't that good for you in the home.

gas is more energy efficient and like others before me said you will still be able to cook when the power goes out.
I also find that the heat is easier to regulate on a gas stove than electric.
