Yes, today's Republican politicians have forgotten what it once meant to be a Republican. They're not anti-Big Government. They want to intrude on every aspect of our lives. That's not just Big Government, it's Big Brother (read George Orwell's 1984 if you haven't). They're not conservative in spending. Every Republican administration since Reagan has spent money like there's no tomorrow. So what if it's borrowed money and not tax money? Someday we'll have to pay, and they have no right to try to pin the blame on the Democrats for their irresponsible spending. Republicans should stop calling themselves conservative and call themselves what they really are...fascists.

Yes, I laugh. Republican and conservative are definitely not the same thing. I am an old political science/ international relations graduate who has been saying this to folks in Yahoo Answers for some time now. Conservative in the traditional sense of the word has little to do with the philosophy of the Republican party. Traditional conservatives have a belief that human nature is inherently bad. They believe that without some form of government humans would live in a nasty brutish state. I am a leftist but I am not so sure that I disagree with that definition of human nature. Leviathan is a great book that was written over a century ago by Locke I believe and is an example of conservative thinking. You are correct in your belief that modern day Republicans (neo-cons might be a more accurate term nowadays) are all about "things" and not ideas. True conservatives are about political philosophy and they act accordingly. There aren't too many around anymore. Some say Nixon was one of the last TRUE conservatives. His scandals and corruption (nobody really disputes the fact that he probably wasn't the most ethical president to serve) tarnished his reputation as a thinking man with a vision. His foreign policy tactics were effective and definitely fell into the category of true conservative thought.

Im Conservative and that i dont compliment that steriod popping action picture famous person. Guilani is slightly a Republican, no longer to show a Conservative. McCain each and each of how, hes the only canidate who has fairly informed the regularly occurring public what he is going to do approximately Iraq; and his physique of ideas is alot extra advantageous than the huge, obscure "stay the direction" and shrink and run strategys of all human beings else.

Not all Re-pubes are rich, but on average they are doing better than the po folk they expect to support them. Many are just single issue people who are afraid of, or don't like things such as, abortions, gay marriage, or taxes, or something. Some are frightened into supporting our bogus war.
You got to give the Re-pubes credit for getting these people in their camp. The Dems sure haven't organized their base.

I agree with you about the real republicans. They are the ones whose interests the party really represents. The rest of the people who vote republican, the middle class, are poor, deluded dupes.

lol lol Good point. However, I laugh just as hard when I hear 'democrat' and 'liberal' in the same sentence. They are always open minded to everything but the other party's opinions. lol lol
