I live in the United States and I've been interested in purchasing Formula One 2006 for the upcoming Playstation 3. However, there is no scheduled released date for the United States, only Europe and Japan. I was wondering if the new Playstation 3 would support international imports without required mod chips if i were to import the game from the UK. I know the current Playstation 2 doesn't support imported games, but I'm hoping the Playstation 3 will so i can play this game.
Please help. Thank you

You should be OK. Sony has opted to go with region-free games as a way of reducing the number of modchips in use. For more information see:

In short form No. The PS3 will NOT support the imprted games without mods partially due to the way systems are built. Im not sure if youve heard of NTSC and PAL. Most Japanese games are built upon PAL but when they are made for the US they spend a little extra time converting it to NTSC form. The only systems that will support both are Gamecube and Nintendo Wii

Hinari is correct... Formula One from Europe/Japan will not be compatible with US PS3 systems. The only way you will be able to play the game is if they decide to sell it in North America. It is not confirmed that this title will be available in the US.
Based on historical performance of Formula One products I dont expect it to be coming out in NA.
