Is it possible to fall in love with someone you've never actually met face-to-face, but just been in contact with through long-distance correspondence?

This is not a real scenario, just hypothetical...

My friend's parents met as pen pals and wrote to each other for over a year. They got engaged and met only as they were marrying. They have been married for 50 years, still they say they consider themselves fortunate and wouldn't recommend that same plan to anyone. It would be too easy to have someone else helping with the writing or to hide things you don't want the other person to know. Their advice: meeting through correspondence is fine, but you also need some in-person time to really get to know each other.

I'm sure that there are a lot of people who think that they love someone that they've never actually seen but have corresponded with extensively. You might really enjoy talking to someone on the phone, emailing them and even find them good looking or attractive based on their picture but when you meet them in person, the chemistry just isn't there. You just can't get a true sense of another person without seeing them face to face.

Yes it has happened many times. When I was on a ship headed for Vietnam , Our Chaplain spoke to the crew and us Marines over the ships PA system. He was an older man and told us of a pen pal he had during world war 2. How he had seen her soul on paper and after 2 years of writing knew her better than anyone else and loved her. They married and 20 years after on this cruise , she writes him every day.

There was a movie , (one of my favorites) love letters, with Joseph Cotton and Jennifer Jones about unseen love,
Murder and mystery also abide. Rent it , you won't be sorry , try and guess the end, no one I know did.

Personally I don't think so, a person who says they have fallen in love with someone they have never met face to face are actually in love with the idea of being in love. Thinking they love someone they have never met face to face is a romantic notion, but not a realistic one. You don't really know someone until he are around them face to face, day after day.

Yes possible.

Love blossoms between two hearts, Physical characterstics of a person will only help in strengthening or weakening the love.

When two persons truly love each other, it is based on the qualities, emotions and personality not just on physical appearence.

Possibly, but it is a bit dangerous to let yourself do that. If you've never met someone in person it's very easy for both of you to make yourself out to be very different than you are.

I would say yes but there are different types or meanings or at least levels of love. You may love the person's voice, personality, wit, intelligence and so forth and love them as a friend and yet never be able to sleep with or marry that person.I love good food but wouldn't sleep with it.Also I love my family but dont sleep with them either. And if my friends knew how much I loved them they would avoid me.

Yes, very possible and has happened before. Sometimes it's hard on you when the other person does not feel the same way, but eventually you'll get over it. And if you're lucky, the person will feel the same way and you'll eventually be together

I believe it's entirely possible, indeed. If the two find a compatibility without seeing each other or know what each other look like, then you take each other for their internal-self--of who they really are.

It would indeed be a test because what if he or she has a face like a horse and a rear end like an elephant? Ugh!

Yes. I met my bf online and we talked for like 3 months before actually meeting. I knew before we met that I loved him and he felt the same way.
