How you act when you're alone is who really are.
I think many things.
Sometimes i think about killing certain people. Sometimes i think about killing myself. Sometimes i think about going on a permanent road trip. Sometimes i actually think i'll find the cure for cancer. Sometimes i think i'm going to be great. Sometimes i think i'm the lowest of the low. Sometimes i think i want to live on an island for the rest of my life. And sometimes i just don't want to have to think.
So is that me?
I really don't know.
I just think i don't have the slightest idea who i am.

Hi,
First I think you should consider this question you posed in relation to something. I think that many times it is very use full to define something by doing just this, it provides perspective and nuances to your thoughts around the issue.
One can start by placing your thought in relation to your self and the much studied quote of Descartes: "Cogito, ergo sum", "I think therefore I am". By this rationale, you thinking, establishes your existence and the beginning of a process of identity formation. So if If you "are what you think" in relation to your own self your statement is certainly true.
The identity formation develops in relation to your environment. When you start bringing in other people or perspectives on whom you are your identity or definition of whom you think you are becomes much more complex.
Your opportunities in life are set by you your capabilities and your thought of whom you are in a dialectic relationship with your environment where the prevailing norms and prejudice may function to your benefit or detriment.
I hope these ideas can contribute in enriching your delving on your statement.
Regards,
ADAM

If I really believed everything I think at any given moment, I'd be locked up--either in jail or a mental institution. What matters is not so much what I think, but how I act upon it.

I agree with that statement in a way. I believe it's more "you are what you know and have been taught." How we are raised and what society teaches us forms what we think about issues and choices. Therefore, if one is what they know, and think what they know, one must also be what they think.

I do believe a person's motivation behind their actions is what defines them, but ultimately you are what you DO.
Actions speak louder than words, much less thoughts.

Not always. Sometimes we fail to see how much we are worth. Like they say it. We are our own worst critic.
