I'm not scared, but I don't know how to tell my mom that I want to shave! There's a pool party tomorrow for my graduating class, so there isn't enough time to get a waxing appointment, like my mom does. All the girls waxed/shaved their legs [they've either been shaving for even seventh grade] and most just started this week. I'm the only one who'll have hairy legs on Friday.
I want to do it, but I don't know how to bring it up with my mom. Plus, she's at work right now, so I'd have to call her up, and all.
The last time I did something crazy without telling her, I cut my own bangs, because all the girls had them, and I was one of the few whose mom's didn't let them get "hair in their eyes." I denied it for a long time, and finally I told my mom after like 3 months, and she got really mad and upset that I lied and broke her trust, etc.
I don't want this to be the case.
Now I know this is really childish, but my mom shampoos my hair on Saturday. She'll notice
Party is tomorrow help fast!

I need something fast, so I probably can't go buy something right now.
Should I just shave it?

I have a 14 year old daughter, so I know exactly what you are talking about. Talk to your mother, and tell her that you want to go to this pool party. Also tell her that you feel really uncomfortable being the only girl in your class with hairy legs. I am betting that she will help you , either by teaching you the proper way to shave or taking you for waxing, etc. I understand how you feel, and your mom probally will too. Good Luck!

1) You're 13. Why does your mom still shampoo your hair? My son is 8 and does his own. You are old enough to deserve TOTAL privacy in the bathroom.
2) You are old enough to shave your legs as often as you want. If you are going to a pool party, then shave. You need to if you don't want to be made fun of.
3) Your mom should understand these things. It hasn't been too long since she was 13, I'm sure. If she doesn't allow you to shave your legs, I don't understand why....a little over protective, maybe?
4) However, I know how moms are. You may as well just do it. If mom gets mad, it will only be for a minute. Shaving your legs is a lot different than cutting your own hair. The hair on your legs will grow a LOT faster. Plus, cutting your own hair is a lot more obvious than shaved legs.

The first time I shaved, I just did it... Grabbed one of my mom's razors and shaved anywhere and everywhere where I didn't want hair... It took a couple of months before she noticed, and she didn't care. If you feel really uncomfortable talking to her you COULD do that- she probably won't get as upset as she did with the bangs thing. Afterall, she didn't forbid you to shave.
What I SUGGEST, however, is just telling her that you're gonna do it. If you feel embarassed, just act as if you aren't and its normal, because it is, and the situation will be a lot less uncomfortable that way (trust me on this one). Shaving isn't really something you need instructions for, but you might just wanna let her know- besides, there are creams and stuff for hair removal, and she could always pick you up something, and shaving is a lot easier with shaving gel, and if you don't already have it, you'll need her to get you some.

Don't use hair removal creams until you know how your skin will react and you really should do a test spot and wait 24 hours to know how your skin will react. I made the mistake of using Nair and I got a nasty rash from it, it's too strong for my skin. Don't shave either, that will make your hair grow back thicker and coarser. I use a natural wax called Nad's. You don't have to heat it or anything, your body heat is enough for it to work. It's very easy to wax your own legs, I do it all the time. You just apply the wax in a small area in the direction of the hair growth, apply the cloth on top, smooth it with your hand real good in the same direction, pull the skin in the area tight with one hand and pull off the cloth in the opposite direction of the hair growth really fast, like tearing off a bandaid. It's very easy and not too painful and it lasts for weeks. Tell your mother about it, I'm sure she'll understand, maybe she'll even help you. She might like using the Nad's herself instead of paying for expensive salon waxing. Good luck

I started shaving at 11 because all my friends were doing it. Don't do it for that reason!! If someone says something snooty to you about the fact that they've been shaving for years, tell them you're not as hairy as them and don't need to yet. That'll shut them up. But, at 13, you might start waxing. Ask your mom if she will do it for you if you can't get an appointment. Nair brand cold wax strips work the best. Good luck!

Just do it! Buy a good razor and foam and do it. Your mom will see the results for herself. Oh, don't shave the upper part of your legs (above your knees). The hair after shaving comes out rather hard, and it is awful on the upper part of the legs. It is better to have some hair there or to wax later.

Explain this to her that you're growing up and you want to start waxing regularly. I'm positive you can get a last minute waxing ANYWHERE - I've done it plenty of times. I've been in your situation too - and once I broke it down to my mother and basically cried she saw my point of view. She still sees you as her little baby so ask her if she can go with you. If not - just shave or use Veet razorless hair removal (don't leave it too long or else your skin will become irritated)
I wish you the best of luck Sanj ;)

Uhm.. I haven't personally shaven my legs, but I've seen it done, and it does not look difficult in the least bit. Put some sort of solution on your legs, be it shaving cream, small lather of shampoo, etc. and slowly run the blade along your leg, making sure to keep the angle of the blade level enough to not cut you. What would look worse than hair on your legs would be a giant bloody scar, so just take your time. No big deal though.
And if you want to tell your mom, just wait till she gets home and tell her then.

At 13 your mom still shampoos your hair? Odd, but ok. If you are afraid to shave because you will nick yourself then you need to confront your mom with this problem. I am sure she can recognize that you are becoming a young woman, and need to learn these things. Just be up front and honest with her. She obviously cares about you, and should help you out.

Ask her if you can try Nair. Or just tell her exactly what you told us, she should understand that you don't want to be the only one in a bathing suit without legs shaved. You're old enough to start shaving.
