I agree with you. Is this all we have to do these days? Aren't there more important things to be doing than making these idiotic decisions?

We call Pluto a planet because thats what our teachers taught us in school. I'd venture to say that a large majority of these 6 billion people you speak of have little to no knowledge of astronomy. Experts are just that. If it is something that can be known than an expert would/should know it. I would take the word of 424 experts over 6 billion "who the hell are you?"s any day.

If you want to call Pluto a planet, go for it. But it is entirely possible for 424 people to make 6 billion look like ill-educated buffoons.

Pluto was discovered in 1930 and a few hundred scientists decided that it was a planet. Now another few hundred scientists are deciding it is not a planet but something not quite a planet.

I don't care much unless somebody decides it is going to crash into the earth, in which case whether a planet or not, it will probably trash the place.

Unfortunately, it's more than BS. It's Ph.D.s. As is typical of academic elite, the common man gets left holding the bag, which in this case is 76 years of astronomical lies. Percival Lowell must be turning over in his grave.

I suggest that we have a world-wide referendum on the issue. Show that democracy in the solar system is alive and well. :-)

You think pluto is BS. I'm glad we left it up to the 424.

You have a point. However, you have to consider that 5.5 billion of those people arent even smart enough or imaginitive enough to think about space at any time in their lives...

So that cuts the margin by a bit :)

Viva Pluto!

Pluto was never a Planet in reality. It was always known as an "Intruding Kiper Belt Object" it's that we are just getting around to getting it right LOL ;-)

I remember when pluto was a planet...

We'll get to tell are grand kids that one day.

Thankfully every decision in the world is not decided by the "mob".

Unfortunately, they are the ones who get to make the call. It really makes little difference to most of the rest of us.

I disagree with their decision. I'm for planetary recognition for both Pluto and the new 'Xena' way out there.

I for one am thrilled that Pluto has been demoted. It used to be a moon of Neptune, and it is smaller than many other moons in our system.
