I think you mean "When you are sleeping and fall, you usually wake up straight away. I didn't so why did it still hurt once I woke up later on?", but I'm not sure.
However, I will answer as if this is your question and you can tell me if I'm wrong and I will edit my answer.
The reason was probably because you then continued sleeping in an awkward position, just like some people wake up in the morning and their back hurts, or something like that, it's because at some point they had rolled over or moved in the night and were now laying in an awkward position.
Hope I helped. Remember to let me know if this isn't what you meant. In fact, also let me know if it is so that people in the Yahoo! Answers community have a chance to offer more suggestions.

I work away a lot and often can't sleep due to the small size of the beds, worried I may fall off.
Not been hurt yet though.

Wait a minuet! You said you were sleeping, and you fell out of bed. And you did not wake up. Yet you also say it hurt. How would you know if it hurt, if you did not wake up?

I fell out of the top bunk of a bunk bed when I was little, and I was having a dream I was falling down a sewer... then I hit the floor and woke up- it REALLY hurt!

I slept on the floor the other night, dreamt a dog was laying against me with it's soggy tail against my neck. It moved away, dragging the soggy tail across my neck, waking me. I slowly realised it was a dream but the feeling was there until I found my neck to be dry.
