I was fired from my government job on Oct 3, 2005, I have been diagnosed with PTSD, and the government chose to fire me because of problems that developed after my return from Iraq. It worsened after return to work in December 2004, I sought out help through the employee assistance program at my job, I finally ended up at the Veterans Administration, where they diagnosed me with PTSD, at which I'm rated at 60%, and 10 % for my hearing loss, my family has difficulty with me, my children know that I'm not the same person I was before I left for Iraq, my parents don't understand it either, I rarely leave my home, my relationship with my girl friend has failed, I've contacted the president, vice president, all my senators and congressmen, only one congressman has tried to help, but his help seem to be in vain. I know it sounds like self-pity, honestly I would have to agree somewhat, but I was called upon to serve my country, and sacrificed allot, I just want what right, help me please

As the child of a veteran who successfully sued the government for various forms of discrimination, I can tell you that you need to get a lawyer and you need to contact your representatives EVERY DAY and become the most annoying man in history. Make sure you write letters, cc everyone, make phone calls and research the laws that protect your status. As a disabled veteran, you are a protected class. You should also seek some of your EARNED counseling, as it sounds like you need it.

As the child of a PTSD veteran of Vietnam, I can also tell you that it is imperative for you to seek all counselling and benefits that are due you. You did a service for this country and we owe you certain things. Make sure you collect on everything. You owe it to yourself AND your children! Perhaps your state congressmen (rather than the national ones) could provide more assistance and state-level help.

Seriously though, contact a lawyer. In fact, I believe that the VA should have lawyers for just this purpose. DO NOT LET THE GOVERNMENT STEAM ROLL YOU. They will do whatever they can to back out of their promise to you. Do not allow it!! This can give you some purpose in life and perhaps help you with your recovery. It took my father 25 years to get what was due him from the government (they denied he even was in the army for that long!) and another 5-6 years to get his discrimination charges taken care of. But in the end, he persisted and won. You can do it too!!!

Thank you for serving our country!

Take the 70% disability which if I had to guess is probably 2200-2500 dollars a month, and do something you want to do. Get some counseling, find a hobby, start a business. This money has been well earned by you, and you are being compensated for your injuries sustained. This is the only form of compensation you will ever get from the federal government. Stay in touch with the VA but dont let it define you. You can overcome this. You don't need to become a ward of the federal government, I hope this helps, there is life after the DOD and federal government, make the most of it.

You definitely have a case there, but you should consult an attorney. Your case is a prime example of how much Republicans support our troops, huh?

I'm so sorry about what has happened to you, and hope that you are able to recover someday. Blessings to you and yours
