purchase a quality machine, some rolls of vinyl and a software program . I use a 4x8 table made out of a piece of plywood as a worksurface covered in cheap flat tile. boom your in business, don't give your work away. there are a number of franchises at a reasonable cost that you can get into that business, check out enterpeneur.com
otherwise if you want to start from scratch, there are many companies that sell the equipment and supplies in packages together with all the training etc. that you might need in any arena that you may want to operate in

Work for one first if you haven't already, learn the in's and outs then emulate what they are doing. That's how I did it (different field). Retired at 53.
Do not sign any non-compete contracts to secure the job, otherwise you will have to work out side that employers established territory or more.

Do like my good friend Cory. He started with small jobs for friend and started being reccomended by more and more people then a major company called him in and he got the job. I think that would be your best bet.
