The amount of land I have to work with now is 1.97 acres. What portion of this would be 10,000 sq.ft. ?

1 acre is 43560 ft sq. so 43560* 1.97=85813.2 which / 10000=1/8.58 th of total about 12%

An acre is approx 200x200 or 40,000 sq ft.
10,000 sq ft is approx 1/4 acre. Thats about 1/8 of your land.

my old house was on 5,000 sf, which was 1/4 acre, so 10,000 would be 1/2 acre.
