I don't watch a lot of TV, but I see that I need to avoid that show so that I can either be entertained or learn something instead of running thru a box of tissues.

If that's the case, it works - you can't help but feel good for the people who get helped by that show. (If only they also helped out families who may not be suffering from some real tragedy, but are good people who may be a little down on their luck and could use a break.)

Yes, that is their purpose. A few months ago, an internal memo was leaked to the media. To summarize that memo, the producers of the show basically said that they did not want people who had lost "only" a leg, but they wanted people who had lost both legs and arms. I do not watch the show anymore because of that memo and the fact that the show is no longer heart-warming, it is depressing and becoming cliched. I do not want to be depressed a few hours before I have to go to bed and wake up and face another Monday at work! ! ! Facing the beginning of the work week is depressing enough! :)

I do not think the purpose is to make you cry. But to show how one family can make a difference. I watch the show and do not cry for the entire house. I don't think i've ever cried watching every single show. Maybe here and their but not the entire hour.

I hate that show. They're actually re-doing a house right now around where I live and it's a really sad story. It's all in the local news and there's like a crowd out front of the house on the weekends. Seriously, I've gotta go watch House and Lost reruns now.

I love the show, but I actually said that I can't watch it anymore. I can't spend my Sunday evening crying for an hour or more. I hope there's something on opposite of it this fall. Oh who am I kidding I still end up watching it and crying. I'm just weak.

No kidding! The idea of the show is great, but I cry the entire time I watch it. It makes me feel good that I am so blessed, but I feel so terrible for those families and all of the hardships they have been through. I just can't watch it.

I agree, but then again I love the show. After watching it, I see that there are people who are worse off than I am. Then I stop compalining for at least a minute:) I really like it because I like tearjerkers. But there are days that I just don't feel like crying, so I avoid it.

Why cant they just build the house and talk about positive things. Why do they make the family discuss every tragedy they have had in their life.
