i use bearshare lite and as long as you are careful about what you download, you can decrease your risk of a virus.

I have never gotten any type of virus or spyware from limewire, however I only download music and some music videos, the only thing you need to do is look at the size of the file, if it looks too small to be a song, or extremely too large to be your song then do not download it, I always com[are file sizes to make sure that they are about the same size, and then pick the one with the most sources, that will be the number to the left of the title. You could also download something like Ares, or Shereaza. As long as you're careful about what you download you shouldn't get a virus.

Depends on the music you're looking for.
For anime and game soundtracks, I'd go to gh.ffshrine.org.
For other music, I'd try music.myspace.com, and do a band search there.
You can also find anime and game music there. ^_^
