The film was written by Ben Affleck and Matt Damon, although there was a persistent rumor that William Goldman (famed screenwriter and author of "Adventures in the Screen Trade") actually wrote the script. Goldman wrote about this rumor in his book "Which Lie Did I Tell?" and denied that he was a ghostwriter for "Good Will Hunting."
