I know all the wise-a$$ answers will follow , but honestly it seems strange to me that someone can mosey on up to your door and solicit you. I hate that they never get straight to the point.

Don't answer the door if you don't know who's there. And don't be afraid to shut it in the face of an obnoxious salesman. Always take your cell phone to the door with you, and threaten to call the police if they don't leave immediately, or if they try to prevent you from closing your door. It's your home, they have no right to intrude on you.

Umm, don't answer the door? Is this a trick question?

If you don't know the person, and they start into a sales spiel, say "Not interested. Don't come here again." Close the door. If they do come back, or prevent you from closing your door, it is harassment. Call the police.

The same thing works for phone marketers.

I have given a Thumbs Up to the first responder. We put a sign on the door, reading: "If you are selling something, and are over the age of 16, or want to talk about religion, regardless of age, GO AWAY." It was effective.

Get one of those signs that say no salesman or solicitors. Can be found at most hardware stores. or make your own and stick it on the door. Worked for me.

I like the lady's answer about getting the sign that says "No solicitors".

We have one posted at the entrance to our neighborhood but they just ignore it or say they missed it.

I think I will get one for my front door today!

it is kind of ugly, but put up signs that say NO SOLICITING, Guard Dog, Salesman Will be Shot, you know something along those lines.
