i've got 40 gb ipod and it was kindda ****** up .. so when i try to restore it it say formatting faliure , hard disk error . but i can see the music folder on the directory and i can't see my ipod in the itunes... it gives me an error saying ..." the drive is not ready, it's door may be opened . please cheack drive /harddisk2............. so can you help me .....

not sure this helps but here goes. Try reinstalling iTunes. If that doesnt do it, there is a program called Pod Utility, well really PodUtil. Download it for free and see if it gets the music off the iPod so even if your iPod is broken your music is safe. and lastly make an appointment to visit your local Apple store's Genius bar. You HAVE to have an appointment so go to apple.com to make it.

I assume you've powered off and on again a few times, that's my first line of defense. Shut the drive door?

But what I really wanted to say is that you are SO lucky that this is the biggest problem of your life. Enjoy the moment, it won't last long!
