It was true but it's about a teenage girl in America who killed the children that went to the school across the street from her house. When they asked her why she did it she replied 'I don't like Mondays' Her name was Brenda Ann Spencer and she used the gun that her father had given her for Christmas.

It is a sad tale from America-and it is true. The girl got hold of her fathers gun and took it to school;she then emptied the gun into as many people as possible. She was arrested and questioned and her only reply to the question why did you do it was "I dont like Mondays."

It was about a girl in America who shot pupils in the elementary school across from her house, cos she "didn't like Mondays", she was 16, and she went to jail for it. Think she's still in jail now, she's pretty messed up over what she did. I saw a documentary on it.

The 16 year old California high school student made headlines when she grabbed her father's gun and opened fire on her school from a house across the street, injuring eight students and killing the school's principal and custodian. When later asked why she'd gone on the shooting spree, she responded "I don't like Mondays."

Well technically no.. It was a girl in America who shot some people with a gift of a rifle her father bought her in 1979. When asked why she did it she apparently replied ''I don't like Mondays. This livens up the day.''
I believe you can read the entire story on snopes.com.

Bob Geldoff was doing a radio interview in America when the telex machine relayed the news that Brenda Spencer had gone on a shoot spree in the local school. "I don't like Monday's" had been the reason she had given to police.
Brenda had wanted a radio for Christmas but her father had given her a gun.
Bob and Fingers returned to their hotel and wrote the song, intending it only to be released as a b-side originally.

yeah it's about a girl who went into school with a gun and shot a few people, when they asked her why she did it her only answer was "I don't like mondays" in the USA, not England, by the way.
and it's not as though she was a drop out type, she was just your average teenage girl.

It's a warning about thick, neglectful parents, the children they breed and what that festering frustration can lead to.

The late 70s/early 80s song "I Don't Like Mondays" was written to reflect the mindset of a teacher who came to work one day and shot up a schoolyard full of kids. When asked at trial why she did it, the teacher supposedly only gave the reply, "I don't like Mondays."

It happened in San Diego, CA. The girl lived across the street from the school, and opened fire. When asked why, she replied, I don't like mondays.
The singer is Irish, I guess that's why people thought it happened in the UK.
