I remember when I got my gym membership, they told me that a personal trainer could teach me how to burn more calories and get a better workout, in less time than a regular workout. Does anyone know how this works exactly? Does it depend on which workouts you do? If so, which ones? I go to the gym 4-5 times a week and my routine is basically, 25 min. Tredmil, 22 min. Eliptical and 20 min. Stair Master. I usually burn about 600-625 calories from this, and I have def. been seeing results since I joined the gym, so that's good. I also do some weight exercises, stretches, ab crunch, squats etc. at home. And if it makes any difference, I'm 23, 5'1", 130, in good health, and a non-smoker. I have already lost about 2-3 pounds in the past 5 weeks, but I want to lose another 6-7. I would really appreciate your advice!

The best way to burn more calories is by incorporating weight training into your fitness regimen. Not only does the act of lifting weights burn calories, but it also builds muscle. The more muscle that you have, the more calories that your body will burn throughout the day...even at rest. It's great that you're doing a lot of cardio (i.e. Stair Master, Treadmill, etc.), but you will get better results if you lift weights. If you combine about 30 minutes of lifting weights with 20 to 30 minutes of cardio (3 to 4 days a week), you'll gain more lean muscle. You should try to workout every major muscle group in your body throughout the week. (Don't worry about bulking up like a man...that won't happen unless you start taking steroids and/or lifting VERY heavy weights.) Combine that with eating 5 to 6 high-protein meals a day, and your matabolism will speed up. All of this will turn your body into a "fat-burning machine". You should be able to lose those extra pounds just fine.

I'm living proof that this method works. I confirmed this information with a couple of personal trainers that I spoke to, as well as with plenty of reputable magazine/online articles. I followed this and it helped me reach my weight loss goals. I was able to drop almost 20 pounds and about 15% of my body fat using this method. Trust me...it works. Good luck!

And to answer your other question: I hear that using the StairMaster tends to burn more calories compared to the other cardio machines (unless you increase the incline or intensity of the other ones). But it's good that you're switching up your cardio workout from time to time.

Calories are energy. Like the gas you put in your car. Ifyour car goes up a hill, it will burn more gas in less time. If your car is full of people and goes up a hill fast, it will burn even more gas in less time. But what about the car (your body)...
25 minutes of threadmill + 22 minutes of elepticals + 20 minutesof stairs= 1h and 5 minutes. And you burn 600 to 625!
That is excellent! If you are the maniac I think you are...and are as healthy as you claim to be. Then add ankle weights and wrist weights. The amount of weight you carry during those exercise sessions is like that car filled with people going up that hill fast...
But remember the car....is your body, so take it easy still!
Dontforget you will be making lots of muscles on that stair master, and muscles weight more than fat. But the good news is a muscular body looks much thinner (pound for pound) than a body that weights the same but is not as muscular.

Nope, you are getting used to the work out. It takes a month for your body to get into a habit of something. & I don't trust those things either, but you do burn a lot of calories for running that long. My trainer told me that the most amount of cardio you should do in a day is 30 minutes, why? because after that, you are burning off your muscles, not the fat anymore.

Wow, good for you! Drink lots of water, eat right, and work out in the am and before dinner. Eat small meals too. Don't drink soda not even diet I think it's worse then regular soda. Try to fight temptations like fast food, chocolate cake, etc. If you can't work out or don't have time try to get at least 20 min, it's better then nothing.

You are doing enough cardio. I would concentrate on the weight training. Muscle burns more calories, but also remember that muscle weighs more then fat. So if you aren't seeing pounds drop pay attention to how your clothes feel on you. Are they becoming loose? Also depending on your diet you may not be eating enough food if you are doing all of that exercising. Make sure you stick to lean protein, fruits, veggies and grains. And drink lots and lots of water.

I just read that working out on an empty stomach can burn calories more quickly. The reason for this is that food increases the insulin in our body and calories are burned more slowly after we eat.
