Pantera is my favorite of all time. I few others would be Slayer, Lamb of God, Anthrax,Meshuggah and Megadeth. Pantera is my favorite because they were a fusion between the old and the new. You here the Sabbath,Priest and Maiden influences but they were able to break away from the older to create their own path. Phil had killer pipes, Dime was a great man and a great guitarist, Vinnie Paul ruled on the double bass drums, and Rex. Well Rex was Rex. Most metal bassist's get overlooked because metal is a guitar driven form of metal. I am

Very simple - Motorhead, though Lemmy would take me to task and say they're simply a loud rock 'n' roll band. The godfathers of speed metal, Motorhead have shredded the rule book of rock and charted their own musical course now for over 30 years.

I'm not knocking Pantera - happen to like 'em as well - but check out albums like "Ace Of Spades," "Overkill" and "Orgasmatron" to discover the sheer brilliance of this band. Seeing your musical references in your question, chances are you're already a fan of Motorhead.

Children Of Bodom.

Alexi Laiho is an absolutely phenomenol guitarist and only 27 years old. I just find this band so talented and have every quality of a metal band and more. It's very death-related but still melodic, which I love. And the keyboards don't make it cheesy. Everything about that band I admire.

I've been listening to Metallica since 1986 - and if you've heard Cliff Burton's (former bass player for Metallica) Anesthesia-Pulling Teeth bass solo - you would say differently...I first saw Metallica as the opening act for Ozzy Osbourne's "Ultimate Sin" Tour.. I still jam to Metallica's "Kill 'em all" CD..

As a product of the 80's Motley Crue's "she's got looks that kill" got me started, only to jump into Iron Maiden, Priest...

AC/DC

What about Primus? Your NAME is Claypool, right?

I like Primus, but if I had to choose one, it would be Slint.

Somebody above has written "AC/DC," which I have to object to because they're basically a novelty band.
