It's hard to avoid if you're travelling more than 2 time zones. Being rested is good, but make sure you're hydrated. Drink plenty of water. Being dehydrated worsens the jet lag.

Oh have I had the worst jet lag. I have ended up in the hospital twice. The first time was going from Vancouver to Germany and I had a lay over in Frankfurt for 8 hours before I went to Friedrichshafen and then a couple years ago going from Toronto to Kabul Afghanistan. What I have learned is to try and sleep when ever you can. I used to not sleep on flights because I didn't like sleeping for only 5 hours and then having a 8 hour layover then another 7 hour flight then a 7 hour layover and then a 2.5 hour flight. I wouldn't sleep for 60 hours and that is too long. Sleep when you can. On the plane have your little meal and a tea and as much water as you can. Then sleep as much as possible. When you have any layovers get up and walk around but drink a lot of water. When you get to you destination try and stay up until it is a reasonable time to go to bed. This can be hard but otherwise it takes you twice as long to get into the right sleep patterns. The next few days will be rough so allow yourself a midday nap but only for an hour, max 2. I have traveled a lot for work so I know.

Don't leave the time zone you are in. If you are in the UK you can fly all the way to South Africa without getting Jet Lag

Easy, do not change time zones. That avoide jet lag. If you must fly, then have cat naps and drink lots of water.
