no1...... do not listen to the ignorance of those warning about hep.
that argument has been solidly clarified by a nobel prize winning physician,,,,, hep was pushed under a rug and onto the shoulders of the tattoo industry by the medical field themselves,,,after they found out they made the mistake of ignoring it for so long......do your research, these are FACTS
no2.... tattoos are a very personal style of art,,, it is an artform for the true art collector.
for instance: like when you have a painting (real painting)commisioned by an artist, for you and you only, What becomes of this painting when you die? it was painted for you remember,,,,, it will mean nothing to anyone that may have it after you pass on.
- a tattoo on the other hand,,,, not only means something to you, and you only,,,,, you take it with you when you leave.
and finally...... when you are old..... thats the most commonly used "excuse" out there, as to not get a tattoo.
when you have lived that many years and been thru everything that you have,,,,seen it all,,,,etc........ do you REALLY believe that a tattoo will matter that much, what it will look like, who will care, ect? haha.... hell no, it will not.
it will become like a photo album,,,, you can look at it and remember where you were, what you were doing in your life at the time you got it,,,,ect,,,,ect......and most of all,,, it will be YOUR art that you have carried thru it all.
ignore the stigma, the stereotyping, and all the stupidity..... and love the art.
funny how 100 years ago.....the only people getting tattoos were the upper class and influential...... untill "others" started getting them,,,,,,,,,
but thats is a whole nother part of the artforms history-

If you must get one get one in an area easily covered by clothing. Some potential employers may not hire you if they are offended by your body art, and some people think those with any tattooing at all are low class. Of course beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but tattoos are forever. That panther or skull might look cool now but how might it appear to others if you reach a point in your career where you have gained some influence and prestige?
When I was a little kid I wondered why my Grandpa always wore long-sleeved shirts, without fail, regardless of the weather, no matter how hot it got outside. He was an executive with the railroad and he had to put forth a professional image, but even when he didn't have to go to work he almost always wore a suit, or at least a dress shirt and dress pants. He never wore t-shirts or jeans or shorts. To me he always appeared to be the well-groomed, dignified Southern gentleman. I didn't learn until much later that the reason he always wore long sleeves was that when he was in the Navy (he was a WWII Veteran) he had panthers tattooed on both forearms. As he got older and advanced in his career with the railroad, the tats became a liability- so much so that he was determined not to let anyone see them lest they have a lower opinion of him. I was in my 30's before I learned the reason for the long sleeves- and that was when Grandpa overheard my son saying how cool it would be to get tattoos. Grandpa rolled up his sleeve and showed my son one of the panthers and said, "This is why you don't want tattoos! Do you think I like wearing long sleeves in 100 degree heat?"
Think twice. And if you must, choose an area nobody sees, like your butt.

It depends on where you put it and how big it is.
Consider your job, the risk of catching a disease from a dirty needle, and the cost of getting a tattoo.
Think about what will happen 40 years from now. If you get a tattoo, it will be faded and on wrinkled skin in 40 years. If you put the money in a savings account instead, it will help you during your retirement years.
If you want some art, why not buy an interesting, framed photograph or painting instead?

They look great at 27 but take a look at a 60 yr old with a tattoo and see what they look like. Stand out and don't get one...who knows you may start a reverse trend! If you do decide to bite the bullet and get one, remember the consequences you may encounter when applying for a job. Good Luck!

I think tattoos are great! I have 4, and am thinking of another. My husband has 2, and another in the works. Ours are all well-thought out, and each mean something significant to us. They're also discreet, so at work, they're covered, because of the stigma some people still have about them, but can be shown if we want that, too. My feeling is, don't do it on impulse, think it through, and put it into perspective with other facets of your life. People are always surprised that I have tattoos, because I seem so straight-laced, but they are a great way to express yourself! BTW, I didn't get my first one until I was 34, I'm 39 now.

Love em!My whole family is pretty much tattoo sort-of-peeps.
My Dad had one since he was 14,and my mom since she was 16.All my grandparents have them too.I got my first one at 19 with some of my college and former highschool friends.I am 24 now and have one on my back, one on my ankle, and one on my wrist. It explains myself too others better,It's like they understand me more. It's my way of being myself.I am a RN nurse at my local hospital and people don't seem to care that have any. Also a doctor I have worked for have one on his arm and was noticable as well but too me none of that matters. My hubby has barbwire on his left-arm.It also holds memories for me that have lived in my heart and have died.My aunt got one on her right wrist when her 29 year old daughter died of diabetes 6 years ago,and put her name on her wrist. And when my older sisters husband died in Iraq about a yr ago she got one w/ his name ina heart.Tattoos are just a way of art,and expressing yourself.People sometimes judge you and think well she's no good if she has a tattoo people get the wrong idea that tattoo artists and bikers and two different kinds.

Tattoos are a great way to identify dead bodies. Other than that, they are a high risk for Hepatitis. Think long and hard before you get one...or better yet, skip the idea and just get temporary ones or none at all. It is more unique to just be yourself. You will be more marketable for jobs and you will not be judged by what is inked on your body. There are going to be some nasty looking people when they age and the tats start to sag and take on a new look. Spare yourself that repulsive look.

Take a picture that you really like and hang a copy of it where you will always see it, also carry one around with you, maybe even have one at work or school. If you can stand looking at the picture 24/7, then by all means get one.
Just come up with a few ideas and find a REPUTABLE tattoo artist near you. Don't skimp on a tatt, it shows and you won't like it.
Get something unique and different, not something that is already drawn up. Let the tatt artist, take a few of your ideas and run with them. You always get the best that way.

I totally agree with party girl and Sally. One of the ugliest things there is, is a tattoo on an old person. I considered getting one back in the day, and I am sure glad I didn't. My aging butt looks bad enough without a faded sagging tatto on it. Yuck! But if you do decide to get one, do like I was going to do and have it put in a place that can be covered by your work clothing.

Do not put one in the small of your back. Anesthesiologist are refusing to give epidurals through the Tattoo as the infection rate is high. So you might end up birthing "al la natural" when you had really wanted something for the pain of child birth.
