u'r hard drive i guess is 100 gb
u'r optical drive is dvd-write or cd-write/dvd read
u gotta use usb 2.0 for printer, no lpt1 or parallel port in u'r laptop

by back-up i understand u mean having the data stored elsewhere / another copy 4 safekeeping

depends on amount of data u wanna backup
best is if u gotta dvd writer ... burn them 2 dvd
if not, cd writing is ok 4 bout 5 gb of data > bout 7 cd's

also u might wanna consider an external hard drive
a 250 gb usb hard drive should cost u around $80

Just insert a CD in the drive and burn the CD with the files

Most likely you have a Universal port to which you can hool up the printer

Yes you can burn / save files to a CD Rom but that will only hold 700mb. If you want to back up all your work / files, I would recommend a portable hard drive. I have a 40GB Western Digital portable hard drive. This simply plugs into a USB port and you instantly have more storage space.

Use an external USB hard drive (30-40GB for about £35.. 5 times that size will only cost approx twice as much). If you have XP just plug it in. You will see the drive in My Computer, along with your C drive..click on C drive to open it....copy & paste what you want from C into the USB drive.

Good Answers so far, but if you have a lot of data to back up and don't want to spend money on an external hard disk, you could compress your data using a programme such as WINRAR or WINZIP, this will make it much smaller and you can then burn the compressed archives to only a few .disk

you may do 2 issues, once you've a dvd burner, burn a DVD along with your innovations and move it over, or you may do it with a CD burner in case you dont have alot of information. you may also positioned both pcs on an same community and basically move them over.
