I'm 16, and I'm going to be applying for my first job, and need some tips. Who do I give the application to, what should I say, etc.? Help please!

Most jobs you would apply for at 16 are for places like restaurants, stores, and this sort of place. All of them will have an application procedure. Walk in, tell them you're interested in a job, and ask them what you need to do to apply. No one is going to expect you to know what their procedures are without being told, and no one is going to look down at you for asking.

On the application, you should do your best to write carefully / neatly. Businesslike. Answer the questions as well as you can, and stick to the truth! For the types of jobs you're looking for, all they are really going to care about is whether you're trustworthy and do they need someone to work the hours you're available.

Expect to apply for more than one job before you're hired somewhere. You might get lucky the first time out, but most people aren't. I certainly wasn't.

You'll also find that retail stores gear up for Christmas beginning in the fall. If that's the sort of job you're looking at, you should have a good chance of being hired over the next couple of months.

You usually give the application to the customer service person at the place you're applying to. Be polite and ask them for the hiring manager's contact number to call them back in a week.

I enclosed a link that might be of help to you. Good luck!

o.k apply for jobs that you are interested in because that always shows in your application and interview if you get one, secondly make yourself a good comprehensive c.v, these days employers look for effort so get their application form and fill it out, then put your c.v with it and a cover letter, you can buy a little folder then to place it all together normally less than a £1, then put it into an a4 envelope and keep everything straight, hand it in personally to the relevant personal departments. but remember rejection shouldn't be used as a put down, but as a that's fine I'm better than that anyway. GOOD LUCK.

if you cant give it to the human resource manager directly hand it to manager or someone in a higher rank than just an employee.

after you turn it in ... leave a message for the human resource manger stating you turned in an application and would like to discuss the position with him/her.

they will more than likely look for your application and might give you chance. its rare that people in charge of hiring read all of the applications so this call can you an upper hand.

it has always worked for me.

good luck

k I'm a retail manager and i hate when people call me...during work I'm working and I'm busy and for you to call me and tell me your name and ask for the status just wastes my time...the application has to have good information...usually a person's availability is what i look at first and if it's open to what i need i give them a call...so make sure when you fill it out to have a decent availability that means weekends and mornings but your 16 so you might be in school...and yeah a lot of people don't want to hire minors due to the fact that there's so many laws we have to follow for them...like only working 4hours on a school day...so yes your weekends have to be open in order to get a shot at getting hired
