Prozac is in fact an anti-depressant. The doctor might be implying the person should stop drinking by offering the med. I mean, stopping drinking might make the depression all better in the end anyway, making happy pills redundant. Tough call. In any case, i don't think they should be mixed, can't be good for the liver... but neither is the alcohol, but mixed could be as much as 10 times worse.

Prozac is an anti-depressant not a depressant and can't be taken with alcohol. Therefore the alcoholic will have to stop drinking while on it, which will hopefully get them on track for a happier healthier life.

I would have to go through as much school as the doctor to answer that; however Prozac is an anti-depressant.

Well, an alcoholic shouldn't really be drinking with Prozac. You are right.
