how can i check my yahoo mail without logging out of my sbc account?

Download and Install Yahoo IM. Once installed and running, when you receive email at your Yahoo account, you will see pop up in the bottom right corner of your pc announcing the new message, click on the balloon and it will either take you directly to your email account or to a sign in page to access your email account.

You can also have your SBC account on IE, and your regular Yahoo! mail on another browser such as Mozilla Firefox or Opera.
I do that all the time, and it pretty much works for me; just make sure it isn't too confusing.
