I have a live draft with buddies this weekend. I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions on options to include in draft to make more enjoyable? Money payouts? Does anyone group teams into divisions or just one big league? Payouts for best QB, RB? Please feel free to give any suggestions that might help.

We have payouts for 1st-4th place, and for highest scoring player for the season, highest scoring player for a week, highest scoring team for the season, and highest scoring team for a week. Keeps it interesting.

For the draft, I suggest large quantities of chicken wings and beer.

I've only ever done free FF leagues, so I can't speak to the money & prizes & whatnot.

With a 14-week season (the last 3 weeks reserved for playoffs), you're going to play a few teams twice unless you are in a league with 15 total teams or more. If you're going to have some overlap, you can break the teams into divisions so that the teams you play more than once can vie for a division crown. Having division winners make the playoffs is an option to consider.

I would avoid prizes for the best QB and/or RB, as those are likely going to be players on teams that had early draft picks (and those teams are rewarded enough already.) How about something like "best player chosen in Round X" gets a prize? You could do that for just the later rounds to make it more accessible to everyone.

Oh, and punch and pie. More people will come if you tell them there will be punch and pie. ;)

you want to devote the bulk of the payout to the champ - it should be all about winning.

if you have 12 teams, you can do 3 divisions of 4 teams. Division winners get 1-2-3 seeds (and you can give the top 2 bye weeks if it fits your schedule).

I wouldn't do any individual payouts based on performance; though you could give a % to the team that scores the most points in the regular season.

I like to have everyone chip in 20 bucks at the beginning of the year, and pay the top three teams' managers according to their finish. Having a lot of bench players can also help make sure that someone doesnt just get lucky on waivers inorder to win the league.

we have a poker tournament in the afternoon on Superbowl Sunday.

Our league winner usually gets around 1100-1200 points with the losers coming in around 700-900

We have a Texas holdem tournament based on how many points you scored throughout the year.

Its a blast and another way to keep people involved all year.
