I would love input before I buy. My CD player in my car stereo is shot, and rather than fix it or replace it, I'd like to use an MP3 player with an FM transmitter. I already have a good library of MP3 files and along with this I would be using WMA files, from CDs of mine I've copied onto my computer. I am not interested in video playback options. I am looking at 1-2 GB players. I'm just not sure if an iPod is the way to go. They're a bit more expensive.

iRiver makes wonderful mp3 players. I chose iRiver because it has an external battery that can be removed and another put in place. Of coarse you'd have to buy an extra battery but I found one on ebay really cheap and it was brand new. The batteries charge quickly too . The extra battery wasn't made by iRiver but it is compatible. Both batteries I have last up to twelve hours. I've dropped the mp3 player twice (by accident) and there is no sign that it suffered any repercussions. I bought the unit on ebay also and got it at half the price of what the company asks on their website. iRiver mp3 players also have a lot more features than most.

The problem with ipods are when the battery dies, not only can you NOT replace it because you have to send it back to Apple- but you aren't guaranteed to get the same unit back! A friend of mine did not know this and got a different player back and he didn't save the music he had on it... the music was gone forever.
Check out the iRiver link above and have a great day!!!

What are you willing to pay for a mp3 player? the ipod is the cheapest good quality mp3 player you could find. If you are willing to spend a little more, you will have more option.

check out the apple refurb page. You could get a 1Gb nano for $109 + tax (sales tax in your area)

Also, make sure you test your fm transmitter. I bought 3 of them before I found one that had good sound quality. I don't remember the manufactuer, and I went to the website that I bought it from and they didn't have it on their web site.

iPods are overrated...they are just mp3 players with an extra couple hundred bucks added on. Try a Sandisk, they have some great new players for much less money.
