They say a shark can smell a half of drop of blood in like 20,000 gallons of water. This might be gross, but, can a shark smell a scab? I've just always wondered that. Can they smell dry blood? I'm going to the ocean in a few weeks and last time we were there it scared me because a guy caught a shark while he was fishing so now I'm a little scared to get in the water. I want to make sure I'm not gonna attract anything like a shark :-)

No sharks can not smell scabs.
Where are you swimming, odd are likely there are shark nets up to keep big sharks out.
The shark the man caught was probably small (that way it can get past the nest)
Dont worry about getting bitten by a shark, its a fact that more people are killed every year by mad cows than by sharks.

Strictly speaking this could be a common false impression, the reason a shark looks to continually be shifting is the should have a relentless and adequate water flow over and by way of its gills as a manner to extract the oxygen it demands. that's often achieved by swimming even if if the present or different kinds of water circulate are adequate, then forward circulate isn't mandatory. Sharks, like many animals do no longer sleep interior the frequently used way, yet instead will sluggish their p.c.. and quit all yet mandatory activities and could seem to be in a trance like state or 'sleep'.

I've always kind of wondered that myself. I don't know if dry blood will attract a shark or not. I'm not sure if it's all blood or just fresh blood like from an open wound.

Just stay inside the sand bars, and you'll be ok. Most sharks feed at the last bar. If you're really that scared, don't go past what you can see the bottom of...

Don't worry you're not on their menu. People are too boney for a shark to bother wasting energy killing. They look for seals and blubbery things. Surfers get whacked because from underneath their profile resembles a seal.
