on the front is a woman's face turned towards the right ,you can make out some of united states america, on the back is the number 20, we can't tell if it's 1844 or 1944.

Need more info. It could be just a token. But if it's so worn you can hardly read any of the writing, then it will be of little value.

The U.S. did make a 20 cent coin but it had a seated liberty on one side with the date and on the other was an eagle with twenty cents spelled out.They were minted from 1875-1878. I think you have a token of some kind. There are thousands or even more, of different tokens out there and probably a lot, that no one knows much about. More information is needed. A search will probably be useless for you don't have enough info to go by.
