-2 is the station where the baby's head is in relation to you spine. -2 is still pretty high up, when the baby is coming out, it's like +3.
Vaginal exams are completely subjective so 3 people could check you and you may be told 3 different things.
But essentially you cervix is half way effaced but it still has a bit to go. As I have said before, a cervix is like a piece of rubber, the thinner (effaced) it is the easier it is to stretch (Dilate).
Hang in there, your almost there, if it is possible try to walk, as they will help to bring the baby's head down and help you to efface.

Dilation and effacement really mean NOTHING reguarding when you will go into labor. It's just another way that OB's attempt to manage your pregnancy and birth.
Many midwives don't do cervical checks prior to labor and some don't even do them during labor, but instead are skilled at watching how the mother looks and sounds to judge her progress.
You can be closed up tight as a drum and have a baby a few hours later. Or you can walk around for a week or more dilated 3-4 cm and 100% effaced. It truely means NOTHING.

The last 2 is for 2 fingerbreadths (meaning 2 fingers can now be easily inserted through the cervix). Since you don’t seem to be very familiar with the terms, I presume that this may be your first delivery. In that case, you will have to wait for 4 to 6 hours more for the delivery to take place as it usually takes a longer time in the first births. If it were the second, third, fourth delivery and so on, it takes lesser time after the cervix has ripened. Take care now. Feel for your baby’s movements and do let your doctor know if they increase or slow down. The pains shall keep on increasing gradually, culminating with the birth of your child. Good luck.

depending on your doctor they wont even keep you in the hospital until you are 5cm dilated effaced I think just means that the cervix is getting ready and softening up never heard of them giving me any numbers for where the babies head was at. Also depending on your contractions how far apart they are and how bad they hurt will usually tell you its time to go.

I was 4 cm dilated and 50% effaced for about 2 weeks. They finally had to induce me. They induced me though because of my blood pressure

This means that you are 3 centimeters dilated, and thinned out half way. The -2 is referring to the baby's station. This number will go up as baby comes down. This means your baby is quite low in your pelvis. I would not expect it to be long for you, but it could be another week or so. Congratulations!

I walked around 3 cm dilated for about 2 months, so no it doesn't mean any time! -2 is where the babies head is, you are correct in that thinking. Good luck!

Just so you know -2 is how high the head is. Using the bony part in your pelvis as a landmark which would be 0. So -2 is higher than the bony part and +2 is lower than the bony part (which would be almost coming out).
