If you have grown tired of your artificial nails and want to remove them for a change, there’s a process to it. To ensure that there is no damage to your natural nails, one must undergo the correct method with patience and good care. You have an option of either getting it done professionally in a nail salon or try an at-home solution, which is not too difficult to do, but you must have sufficient time for it.

Also, you must know that there are different types of acrylic nails viz. EMA, MMA, fiberglass etc.

The process to remove all of these is the same except the time taken is different for each.

First, let’s take a look at the at-home process:

Don’t ever try clipping the old acrylic nails. It can be quite painful and can cause damage. The best way is to use acetone and cuticle oil.

Here’s how it works
·Apply Vaseline on fingers and cuticles

·Take a bowl of acetone to soak your hands in it for a while. It’ better to use warm acetone than that at room temperature since it works faster on the nails. You can warm it by putting the acetone bowl in another bowl of hot water. Do not ever heat the acetone in a microwave or on the gas stove. Acetone is a highly inflammable chemical and can be quite hazardous.

·Cover the acetone bowl with a clean towel to avoid evaporation
·Keep the fingers in acetone for at least 15 minutes if it is warm and for about 30 minutes if it is at room temperature. Remember, the longer you keep it, the better since the acrylic will wear off easily and faster.
·Once the water becomes gummy, (which is the acrylic melting off), you can remove the rest of it by wiping it off with the towel dipped in acetone. Do not try to remove the acrylic before it is ready to peel off else it will begin to harden again and you will have to undergo the entire process again.

An alternative method for acrylic nail removal is as under:
·Soak a cotton ball totally in acetone (preferably use real cotton and not synthetic)
·Apply lot of Vaseline or lotion on all fingers to condition them
·Put one such cotton ball on each finger and wrap it around slightly tight with tin foil
·Dip all fingers if paraffin thrice. This is a safe method for creating heat and there’s no problem if the acetone gets into the paraffin.
·Once the acrylic begins melting, apply some pressure and try removing the remaining acrylic and using a nail brush clean the acetone off. You can even wash you hands thoroughly to get rid of the acetone.
·Remove the rest of the acrylic using a tissue or cotton

So, that’s the at-home method for acrylic nail removal. Just ensure that you use acetone ingredients instead of non-acetone since the latter does not help in acrylic nail removal.

Also read the instructions properly if using a nail removal kit. Another way to quicken the process is to clip off the extra artificial nail.

Since acetone can dehydrate the skin, apply lots of Vaseline or lotion again to regain the moisture.

As mentioned earlier, you can even go to the nail salon but check on the rates before you decide to do that. The process might cost you anything between Indian rupees 250 to INR 500. The basic method they use is similar to the one used at home. The key is to soak the fingers a lot in acetone for best results.

How To Remove Artificial Nails

You can return to the nail shop and have them removed for a small fee or you can buy some artificial nail remover at most stores. Be careful, you can really tear up your nails if you're not careful. Make sure you put some clear nail enamel on your nails when you remove the artificial ones to be sure they don't break off easily.

You can buy an artificial nail remover at any drugstore, but all it is is a round brushing system in acetone. And you can buy acetone at just about every drugstore as well. That's one of the things you have to look for when you wear false nails, you can't use a nail polish remover that has acetone in it or it will take your nails off.

How To Remove Fake Nails

If you insist on removing them yourself, Sally Hansen makes an artificial nail remover. You have to sit there for a while and let your nails soak in it. Then you can file them off. It takes a long time and you need to be careful otherwise your going to really damage your nails. It took me a couple of hours to do it once.

It a lot faster and easier to get them removed at the salon. Most places charge $10 or so and in 20 minutes or so your out the door.

It depend on what kind of nails you have on. If they are nail tips you can soak them in acetone for at least 15 mins, the longer the better. Then taken the tip in lift from the from one side to the other and the whole nail should come off, but this depend on your soaking time and if they are nail tips. If they were made out of acrylic alone then it will take a little more doing but you still can use the acetone nail remover. Soak them the same but when they get soft you will have to clip them with a toe nail clipper or a professional nail clipper. This will get the tip end off, then you will have to soak some more and file the part that will be left on your real nail down until it is completely off. I would go to a nail shop personally if I had acrylic nails, it more convenient.

To remove artificial nails the inexpensive way buy a bottle of polish remover with acetone in it (which can be found almost anywhere like Target, Wal-mart, CVS, Wal-green,etc and usually costs about $4-$5) and soak them or go to the nail salon and for about $10-$15 they can do it for you.

I let mine grow out as much as possible and then just peeled them off - i think it was maybe 4 or 5 weeks without a refill?

You can also go to the nail salon and have them remove them or soak your fingers in acetone (strong nail polish remover).

Good luck with it and make sure to use some kind of nail strengthener after wards b/c your nails are going to be very soft after having the artificial ones removed - i recommend either Nailteques or Sally Hanson Hard As Nails - the second is my favorite - it's cheaper and does the same job. And try not to bang your finger nails either (amazing how easily you nick them) b/c they'll be sore for awhile. :)

Happy Friday!

You need to soak your nails in acetone. It's basically nail polish remover. That is what will happen if you go to the salon. They will cut the nail done and have you sit there with your hands in bowls of acetone nail polish remover. Why not just buy some from WalMart for $.99 and do it in the comfort of your own home. It doesn't hurt but will take a while to loosen to the point where it doesn't hurt to get them off.

Remember - if it hurts when you try to pull them off soak longer.

a couple of ways: some more painless than painful

soak your nails in asenton. real nail polish remover has this, and it will bruned the aryclic off. it is time consuming but works.

get a nail clipper, and clip them off. the only problwm with this, is that if your nails underneath are long, you might clipped your own nails too, and that can be painful.

take the nail to the mouth. i know it sounds barbaric, but i have seen it done. starts twisting the nail around your eyes and gently chanked the nail off.

also if you really dont want to do all that, wait about two weeks. the space between the real nail and the fake nail, if the gap is big enough you will be able to sapped the nail off.

good luck.
