it starts up goes to the menu and everything but when i put in any disc a (cd or game) it says it cant read it and its not even two years old yet

The same thing happned to mine, but mine was a G1 system. I contacted sony and they fixed mine for free (well, i had to pay for shipping to them). Try talking to tech support, but be a known problem.
You can also try to run a disc cleaner though your system and see if that helps.

it is one of 2 things your laser either needs a good clean with mentholated spirits or the laser needs to be replaced the laser is what reads the disc so it can be played this may sound stupid but after you put the disc into the ps2 try turning the ps2 onto its side or upside down and see if it plays that way it has worked for me in the past

try to find a dvd player or compact disk cleaner for it. it may be that the little reader is dirty, or that isn't it then it may be broken and needs to be replaced. i had the same problem and i found a cleaner for computer cd drives and it worked great. it is a funny looking cd that you put in with some cleaner stuff.

Ok my friend had to get a lense cleaner if that does not work then I am sorry to say it could be broken but I would take it in to a shop and see if they could advise as I am only speaking of past experences

I'm sorry to tell you this but the PS2 is the most breakable system. It always had problems. I am very sorry to here that yours is sick. but when it dies, I suggest you sell your games and buy the Wii to start living your games alright?
That's what i did, now i want to preorder the Wii!

Your CD Drive has gone bad and it needs to be replaced. This is common.

Call Sony and they'll let you send it in and repair it for free.
