I love my job. It's is less than 5 minutes from my home, and my kids schools. My boss is great and never gives a hard time about sick kids or dr appts and stuff like that. If we're busy and have to work through lunch, he pays and I can eat whatever I want, one time I ordered a steak just to test him and he was like "great get me one too!" He pays for gas if there are errands for me to run. There's more but I won't bore you. The money's not great but I get by. On more than one occasion I have been offered positions that would pay more money but would also involve more stress. Our office is quiet as we are the only ones here during the day. I got a radio in the corner playing jazz and a big cushy chair. A few of my friends think that I stay here because I'm too comfortable to persue other opportunities. I've had high paying jobs that put me into therapy. I don't mind coming to work every day and I go home happy most days. I also have full medical and dental insurance.

I have one of those jobs you are talking about. It is great to have a good boss like that and I've been fortunate. I've changed my schedule about 3 times already and he has no problems with it. I sometimes bring my 7 year old to work and he is okay with it. Honestly, a peace of mind is the greatest thing in the world. They will have to kick me and restle me out of this job and that is the only way I would leave.

This is a problem most of us face at one time or another. But keep your options open. There may just come a time when you will find another oportunity that you can't pass up. It is always hard to leave a company that you feel more like family in.

I am doing this myself. I worked for a company that I made ok money at and even when they fell on hard times after 9-11 the 2 owners took everything out of thier retirement accounts to continue to pay us until work picked back up. How many companies would do that? I did finally have to leave to find work closer to me.

I am now moving yet again to another company. They made offers twice before while I worked here which I do love this company but they finally made an offer I couldn't refuse. Even my boss here when I told him to at least give him the chance to try an match it said "You would be a fool not to accept that offer. (It was 21% more than what I make now plus half the drive time)

But I told them here to keep my options open for the future. Sounds like your very happy where you are at so perhaps you can ask your boss how to increase the companies revenue and therefore increase your own pay.

I think being happy at work is very important to your health and well being. Your boss sounds like a great guy so thats always a plus. I would consider your retirement and how rewarding the actual work is as well. Let me tell you If I could play jazz at my office and get rid of half the stress I would be very grateful!

From what you described, it seems you already know you are in a great position which you may not find that same culture & atmosphere at another company. Why should others be concerned for you to pursue other things if you are happy with what you are doing? Its your life not theirs so do what is right for you and your family - you are the only one who walks in your shoes. Good luck!

It sounds like this job is very compatible with your lifestyle. If money is an issue, ask your boss if there are other office or management functions you can do that would be worth a higher salary.

Perks are best, sounds like you have a dream job, stick with it. Life is too short to be stressed out in a higher paying job. Enjoy your job, your kids and your life. You will never regret it.

Take a job you love and never work a day in your life.

If you love your workplace that beats therapy, broken relationships, and pepto-bismol any day of the week.

This isn't perks, it's quality of life!

This is a no-brainer. A job is one-third of your life. Enjoy it. Or, perhaps you can find one with perks and money?
