Like most food in America it is "Americanized" Mexican food and in this case a fast food version. No fast food could be the real version of anything.

It is fast food and if you go to an authentic mexican restaurant or better yet a mexican's house, you will know that Taco Bell is junk food and nowhere near "real food". We don't make our tacos with those shells and what the heck is a mexican pizza? Nope, never made that at home.

Excellent question! Taco Bell is an bad imitation of Mexican food. They go about trying to pass off junk as the real deal. To begin, I have traveled all over the US and particularly the south western regions where Mexican imigrants rule. I have eaten in all styles of Mexican restauraunts (small mom&pops to the more elegant). Taco Bell can not touch the food offered in these places.
In Los Angles, I had shrimp taco from a street vendor; San diego the Mexican omlette; Laredo, Tx. fresh fraitas made from beef as I watched them cook it; All excellent food. Taco Bell is a ripoff of Mexican culture, done poorly.

Extremely fake...Ground beef is rare, cheese and sour cream on Mexican food are almost unheard of (and never in the quantities TB uses)...Mexican pizza? Crunchy tacos? Look to So.Cal. joints like *Bertos (Alibertos, Robertos, BertoBertos) or similar chains for more authenticity.
Also, don't forget that Mexico's cuisine is EXTREMELY varied--Baja food is very different than food from Michoacan (sp?) or Veracruz...

Totally fake! It tastes nothing like good authentic Mexican food, although they do use some of the same ingredients.
