My answer is this: Obviously the world is not great and we have a medical industry forced by economic pressures from medical insurers and drug companies to push drugs as the quickest way to take care of,"cure", any emotional conditions considered unnatural and undesirable in a society where emotional, mental, and physical weaknesses are deplored because they diminish economic productivity. Depression is a normal existential reaction that all who live will feel as the stresses and problems wear them out.

The world is not great, in fact it's been going downhill ever since the Fall. The good thing is anti-depressants help some people, especially those with a family history of depressive disorders. So we can at least be thankful that there are technologies available to make life suck just a little bit less.

depression is a mental sickness and has nothing to do with your surroundings. People with the greatest lives ever could suffer from depression. Anti-deppressions is not the answer though, people should fix the problem from within and not with exterior things like drugs of any sort.

how is this world great? we are filled with corruption of every kind. people are dying, we commit sins every day. then what about global warming? we wonder when our planet is going to collapse. the pandemic of AIDS? we see our brothers and sisters born with this disease, and we watch them die. at least if we had people loving each other we would have something to feel good about...but we don't. people are too concerned with their own lives. if it does not affect you, you choose to be indifferent. you see a man begging on the street, you walk right by, yet you have cookies and crisps in that shopping bag of yours. crime is rife. racism is rife. democratic countries? please. no wonder we need anti-depressants. you wake up every day not knowing if you would return safely to your family. as an individual, you try to make a difference, but how is progress going to happen if we all do not work together? eventually it becomes too much for one person who is trying to make a difference

depression comes from the person's brain that lacks chemicals, it has nothing to do with outside forces, situations or the world in general.it is true that outside forces casues stress in people and sometimes they react to those stresses.
situations, the world or the people, both good and bad are not causing the depression. the med's that a depressed person takes help's the person to cope with everything they do or want to live a balanced life[ i know because i am depressed and take med;s for it and i am happy to have the med's in my life

I would argue that it's not so great, and that it's mostly pretty depressing and moments of happiness are not that common.
But, I would also argue that a many people on anti-depressants don't really need to be on them (that's not at all to say that no one should be on them).

They feel the need to uplift themselves from their own personal problems which they cannot solve by anti-depressants, but only through TRYING to resolve them.
Every moment of life you spend depressed is another moment of your life wasted not being happy and content.

The world is, but spiraled backwards down hill. Sorry to say this. I suppose that really is the reason why millions of people are on antidepressant. It's not going forward, and that's for sure. Does taht answer your question?
