sure you can sue the same tiles as whats in the bathroom, if they are close it will look sharp. what i would do is pull up the existing tile, clean/scrape off the excisting mortar and start fresh. Home depot has some good tiles that are always on sale(promo tiles) ranging from $.69 sq/ft-$.99 sq/ft these tiles are good but are not the most durable tiles out there. they are good for the average family and person but not for a comercial type setting. they are just a little thinner than your average tile. They are ceramic and will stand up to any cleaners you toss at it.
Products needed for tile install.
1-Thinset(use a fortified thinset like flexbond or versabond if you have the $$ to spend use megalite. costly but the best stuff out there)
2- tiles get the sq/ft of your room/s lengthxwidth. if you bring the measurement to the Depot in inches they will convert for you to make it easy.
3- grout its your call on the colour.
4- tools- trowl(1/4x1/4x1/4 sq notch),grout float(get the better one),sealer for grout, spacers(I dont care how good you are get these to make it look right), pail for mixing thinset and grout, chalk line(borrow a friends if you can)
5- if this scares the crap out of you you can either get this all installed from them or take the free class they have every weekend. remember you can also rent the tile cutters for all the cuts, they will teach you how to use it before you rent it.
Tile installs are not hard, but do take time. do soem homework and have fun with it.

the best choice would be ceramic tile, but as women we don't have the patience to wait around for it to be installed.
you can go to lowes and they will show you how to do it yourself. it isn't all that hard to do.
or, there is some really nice press down vinyl tiles. if you choose to do this it is VERY IMPORTANT to make sure that after you scrape up all the old vinyl that you clean the floors extra good. if there is any sand or anything on the floor your new vinyl tiles will pop up after just a few days.
good luck with your floors.

Just buy plain simple tiles to fill up the entire floor. Then you can selectively, paint beautiful colouful designs (collage) e.g. sunflowers, etc and spred these tiles out e.g. 10 plain tiles to 1 arty tiles until it fills up your whole floor ...or even if you're not good at drawings, spend a few extra dolalrs to buy ready made designed tiles to replace the self-art tiles ...... this would make your floor look simple yet expensive. Not too much designed tiles against plain tiles though .. the theme is simple yet trendy. Most important is color combination of the plain tiles and the designed tiles so it seems that they complement each other .

I would go to a home improvement store such as HOBO, or something like a tile city, there is easy to install vinyl or tile pieces that come in cool patterns like clay, marble etc.The tiles or floor coverings usually are sticky backed and can be bought by the box full.

There are some really nice tile looking vinyls out there. Some represent stone and marble, they are cheap and easy to do yourself. Home Depot has some nice ones--They have pics of what it looks like installed and tips on how to do it yourself. My husband installs ceramic, marble and stone tile and some of these vinyl pics fooled us-we thought it was real! good luck!

The best is ceramic tile. I would use it in both the kitchen and bathroom. Lowes has the best prices. The majority of which are between $.83 - $1.60. You can go to www.lowes.com and view what they have online.
